The Montaign d'Ambre National Park is on a small rainforested mountain in the far north surrounded by dryer lowland. It includes an area of 18,200 ha (45,000 acres) with an elevation range from 850-1474 m (2800-4836 ft).

The park has a rich flora and fauna including colorful plants, the highest density of leeches that we encountered, and the most colorful millipedes we saw.
