Pandanus leaf skeleton
Revealing its internal structure in death, this Pandanus leaf skeleton has parallel struts (about 1/16 inch/1 1/2 mm apart) with crossbraces. Dead leaves are recycled rapidly in the rainforest, but the tough structural fibers are more resistant than the other parts, leaving a lattice when the leaf has partly decayed. Pandanus tend to be coastal in other places, but in Madagascar they are also found inland.
