Among lemurs the survival pattern is conspicuous: all the largest species are extinct, and, among the living species, the smaller ones are doing better than the larger ones. Archaeoindris, at 160-200 kg in the size range of adult male gorillas, is gone. Indir lemurs at 6-7 kg are the largest survivors.

Mouse-lemurs shown here are the world's smallest primates, weighing only 45-80 g (1 1/2 to 3 ounces). The two of the three species are the most common lemurs and the only ones not considered threatened. We encountered them at night in several places.
