Madagascar is the world center for chameleons. Its 54 species amount to 2/3 of the planet's total.

Chameleons can use each eye independently, but they bring them both forward to focus on prey. Recent experiments, however, have shown that they do not rely on two-eyed triangulation to judge distance, but rather sense the eye lens focus for this purpose.
