A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

vastus,-a,-um (adj.A): (of places, as of deserts, the sea, devastated places) empty, waste, deserted, desolate; laid waste, devastated; vast, enormous, of superhuman or vast size or force; of great size or extent; rough, rude.

- [Cucumer erraticus: Wild cucumber [perhaps Cucumis sativus L.] Cucumer erraticus nascitur maxime in locis sabulosis, et est per omnia dulci cucumeri similis, but pilosior, id est asperior et multo brevior et minor, radicem habet quidem vastam (“Galen” in Everett), the wild cucumber grows best in [coarsely] sandy places, and is [in every respect] similar to the sweet cucumber, but hairier, it is more rough and much shorter and smaller, but at the same time it has a root that is huge.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
