A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Urbs (s.f.III), gen.sg. urbis, abl.sg. urbe: city;

- Utica quondam urbs maritima fuit, hodie 7ooo ad 8ooo metr. intervallo a mare distant ruinae (Desf.) Utica was once a maritime [i.e. coastal] city, the ruins today are distant from the sea by an interval [i.e. distance] of 7000 to 8000 meters.

NOTE: urbs is for city, oppidum or municipium is for a town; pagus and vicus for a village or hamlet (i.e. small town), although pagus can also mean the larger district or province. As an i-stem noun, the gen. pl. is urbium; opp. rus, gen. sg. ruris (s.n.III), acc. sg. rus, abl. sg. rure, nom. & acc. pl. rura, dat. & abl. pl. ruribus: the country (as opposed to the town, q.v.).
