A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Tussis,-is (s.f.III), abl. sg. tusse: a cough;

- veteranarii pulvere utuntur cum sale ad pecorum tussim & asthma (Dill.), veterianarians use the powder with salt with regard to the cough of cattle and asthma.

- Laudant, inquit Cæsalpinus, ad pulmonis vitia, ad tussim siccam spirandi difficultatem (Dill.), they commend [it], said Caesalpinus, with regard to defects of the lung, to dry cough and difficulty of breathing.

Tussilago,-inis (s.f.III), abl. sg. tussilagine, classicaly was an herb called the coltsfoot; used as a generic name by Linnaeus; ‘name from tussis, a cough, for which the plant has long been a reputed remedy’ (Fernald 1950).
