A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
turbinatus,-a,-um (adj.A): turbinate, i.e. top-shaped or obconical, broadly obovoid-obconic, like an inverted cone; “top-shaped; inversely conical, with a contraction towards the point; as the fruit of some Roses” (Lindley); “top-shaped; inversely conical” (Fernald 1950); cf. pear-shaped, pyriform, obturbinate; see conic;

- (fungus) capitulum subturbinatum, vigente fungo pellucens, in vetusto opacum marcescit ac delabitur (S&Z), the capitulum is nearly turbinate, pellucent when the fungus is fresh, in old age it withers to opaque and falls down.

- [Parmelia bullata; lichen] receptaculum a thallo formatum saepe turbinato- bullatum (Nyl.), the receptacle formed from the thallus often turbinate-bullate [i.e. blister-shaped].

Bryum turbinatum, a moss, in allusion to the shape of the capsule; Gastroboletus turbinatus, a mushroom where the mouths of the tubes are twisted and contorted.
