A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Transformation, a change or alteration: transformatio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. transformatione; metamorphosis,-is (s.f.III), abl. sg. metamorphose: a transformation metamorphosis;

- in Padina eodem modo transformatione cellularum epidermidis oriuntur sporae (B&H), in Padina the spores arise in the same way, by the transformation of the cells of the epidermis.

- qua metamorphosi peracta, fungus noster induratus ac totus solidus , e livido - fuligineo nigricans , diu persistit (S&A), by which metamorphosis completed, our fungus grown hardened and all solid, growing black from a livid sooty-brown, persists for a long time.
