A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

trachy-: in Gk. comp., rough, harsh [> L. trachys, eia, y (adj.): rough, rugged];

- trachycarpus,-a,-um (adj.A): rough-fruited.

- trachycaulis,-i (adj.B), trachycaulus,-a,-um (adj.A), rough stemmed.

- trachoma,-atis (s.n.III), abl. sg. trachomate, a contagious conjunctivitis caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis.

Trachycarpidium, > Gk. trachy, rough + carpos, fruit + idion, a diminutive, in reference to the bladdery cells of the fruit lending a roughened appearance to its surface; Trachycystis, a bryophyte genus, > Gk. trachy, rough + cystis, bladder, alluding to the inflated, bladder-like laminal cells that perhaps lend a roughened aspect to the leaves; Trachybryum; Trachyspora; Trachythyriolum; Trachyxylaria.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
