A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Tegmentum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. tegmento, nom. & acc. pl. tegmenta: covering, coat; “the scales of a leaf-bud; they are ‘foliaceum’ when modifications of leaves; ‘fulcraceum’ of stipules and petioles; ‘petiolaceum’ of petioles only; ‘stipulaceum’ of stipules only” (Lindley); the scales of a leaf-bud (Jackson); tegmenta foliacea, t. fulcracea, t. petiolacea and t. stipulacea, “modifications of leaves, stipules and petioles, petioles and stipules only” (Lindley) [Jackson]; see perula,-ae (s.f.I), ‘bud scale;’

- palpebrae sunt tegmenta oculorum, the palpebrae [i.e. eyelids] are the coverings of the eyes (Lewis & Short).
