A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

surrectus,-a,-um (adj.A): sub + rectus (adj.A), somewhat, almost or nearly straight or upright; see rectus,-a,-um (adj.A), ‘straight.’

- [Byssus] colore candido, substantia adeo tenera, ut solo halitu difflari queat, ex lanugine nempe constans subtilissima, filis tenuissimis surrectis, non ramosis, quoquoversus expansis (Dill.), with a (shining) white color, the substance quite delicate, so that it might be blown away with a single breath, indeed, composed of the finest down, with the extremely thin filaments nearly straight, not branched, spread out in every direction.

- Elephantis species sunt: Elephas Italica, flore magno, proboscide surrecta; Elephas Campoclarensiam; Elephas Orientalis flore parvo, proboscide surrecta; Elephas Orientalis, flore magno, proboscide incurva (Tourne.), the species of Elephas are: Elephas Italica, with a large flower, the proboscis nearly upright; Elephas Campoclarensis; Elephas Orientalis with a small flower, the proboscis somewhat upright; Elephas Orientalis, with the flower large, the proboscis incurved.

Clematis erecta var. surrecta, praecocior (DeCandolle); ‘surrecta’ here may indicate the variety is ‘somewhat’ like Clematis recta L.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
