A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Silicle, silicule, silicula, a pod in the Cruciferae (Brassicaceae); “a siliqua [i.e. silique] about as broad as long, or broader; (obsol.) among Algals, see carpoclonium” (Lindley); “A short silique, q.v., not much longer than wide” (Jackson); a short silique, the pod in the Cruciferae (Brassicaceae): silicula,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. silicula, nom. pl. siliculae, acc. pl. siliculas, dat. & abl. pl. siliculis; the capsules are less than twice as long as wide [> L. silicula,-ae (s.f.I) a (small) husk or pod, dim. silique,-ae (s.f.I), a pod]; see silique;

Silique, q.v.: “the capsule is more than twice as long as wide” (Jackson).

[algae] Carpoclonium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. carpoclonio: “> Gk. klWnion, a young shoot, ‘a free case or receptacle of spores fround in certain Algals’ (Lindley)” (Jackson).

- silicula margine dentata, setis rigidis in utroque disco echinata (DeCandolle), the silicle dentate at the margin, echinate with rigid bristles on each disc.

- silicula margine dentata, villi's longis mollibns hirsutissima (DeCandolle), the silicle dentate at the margin, very hirsute with long, soft villi.

- floribus mox racemosis, siliculis ovatis truncatis seu latissime emarginatis (DeCandolle), with the flowers soon racemose, with the silicles ovate, truncate or very broadly emarginated [i.e. notched].

- siliculis corymbosis emarginatis sino latiusculo-obtuso (DeCandolle), with the silicles corymbose, notched, with somewhat broadly obtuse.

- siliculis latitudine triplo fere longioribus (DeCandolle), with the silicles almost three times longer than the width.

- stylo diametrum transversalem siliculae aequante (Boissier), with the style equaling the transvers diameter of the silicle.

NOTE: pouch: “= silicle” (Jackson), without further explanation.
