A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
sericeus,-a,-um (adj.A): “silky. covered with very fine close-pressed hairs, silky to the touch” (Lindley); sericeous, silky with long straight close-pressed glossy hairs (Stearn; Jackson); (in mycology) silky; with fine, shining, hairy filaments lying smooth in one direction on the surface” (S&D); see silky;

- ramis juvenibus sericeis, with young branches sericeous.

- flores secus ramos paniculae terminalis sericeocanescentis, sessiles, unilaterales (B&H), flowers along the branches of the silky-canescent terminal panicle sessile, unilateral.

- flores extus sericei, flowers externally silky.

- ramis teretibus virgatis, junioribus sericeis, with branches terete, virgate (like long rods), the younger ones with silky hairs.

- rhachilla inter flores articulata et pilis longis sericeis glumas fertiles circumdantibus instructa (B&H), the rachilla articulated between the flowers and provided with long, silky hairs surrounding the fertile glumes.

- (fungi) stipitis color eleganter roseus per floccos laxos sericeos flavicantes sub annulo persistentes transparet (S&A), the color of the stipe is rose-colored becoming yellowish under the annulus through the persistent, loose, silky cottony-tufts.

- [fungi] color corticis ab initio argenteus, sericeo nitore insignis (S&A), the color of the cortex is silver from the beginning, remarkable for its silky sheen.

sericiusculus,-a,-um (adj. A), subsericeus,-a,-um (adj.A): somewhat silky.

villoso-sericeus,-a,-um (adj.B), sericeous with long, soft hairs; syn. bombycinus,-a,-um (adj.A).
