A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Pisum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. piso: the, or a pea, q.v.; [Leguminosae];

- ex leguminibus valentior faba quam pisum, among the legumes the faba is more nutritive (i.e. powerful) than the pea.

- [alga] tendentia frondis centrifugali saepe oritur juxta basin protuberantia, quae sensim a matrice segregatur, magnitudine fere pisi majoris (Agardh), with the tendency [i.e. course of development] of the frond centrifugal, often with a protuberance arisen next to the base, which gradually is segregated from the matrix, with the magnitude almost of a larger pea.

- baccae piso paulo majores leniter undulatae calycis dentibus demum deltoideis coronatae, septo etiam sub maturitate perfecto membraneo biloculatae (F. Mueller), the berries larger than a small pea, lightly undulate, ultimately crowned with the deltoid teeth of the calyx, even at maturity biloculate with a septum with a complete membrane.

- drupa pisi semine minor (F. Mueller), drupe smaller than the seed of the pea.

- drupa vix pisi minoris magnitudine quadrilocularis (F. Mueller), drupe quadrilocular, scarcely with the size of a small pea.

- legumina pisi mole tantum statu immaturo visa (F. Mueller), the legume seen only in the immature state with the mass of a pea.

- magnitudo pisi fere vulgaris , aut paullo amplior(S&A), the size of a pea almost commonm or somewhat bigger.

- fructus diametro pisi (B&H), the fruit with the diameter of a pea.

- [Pisum,-i L. (s.m.II] species 2, altera diu culta in regione Mediterranea et Asia occidentali spontanea sed saepe inquilina, altera Tauri alpium incola (B&H), species 2, one cultivated for a long time in the Mediterranean region and spontaneous in western Asia but often introduced, the other an inhabitant of the high mountains of Taurus.
