A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

piscatorius,-a,-um (adj.A) of or belonging to fishermen; fishing- [> L. piscator,-oris (s.m.III), fisherman];

- navis,-is (s.f.III) piscatoria, abl.sg. nave piscatoria: fishing-smack, fishing boat.

- harundo,-inis (s.f.III) piscatoria, abl.sg. harundine piscatoria: a fishing rod, line, of which nets were made.

- forum,-I (s.n.II) piscatorium, abl.sg. foro piscatorio: a fisherman’s market, fishmarket.

- Hydrodictyon utriculatum, filis (i.e. cellulis elongatis) in saccum reticulatum, rete piscatorium aemulantem coadunatis insigne, artifìciosissimum stupendumque naturae opus, ut Rothius ait, veteres quoque botánicos non fugit, quamvis Casp. Bauhinus et Ul. Aldrovandus false id nosse putabantur (Braun),

Hydrodictyon utriculatum, with the filaments (i.e. elongate cells) joined into a remarkable reticulate sac, resembling a fisherman’s net, a most ingenious and astounding work of nature, as Roth said, also it had not escaped older botanists, although Caspar. Bauhin and Ul. Aldrovandus falsely were supposed to have been acquainted with it.

- FUCUS filiformis simplex tenuissimus subdiaphanus [fucus threadlike, simple [i.e. undivided], very thin, slightly transparent.]

= Fucus indica, tetes, setam piscatoriam referens, longissimus, an Indian fucus, rounded [i.e. cylindrical], bringing to mind the fisherman’s angling line [i.e. leader], very long.

= Gramen sparteum setas equinas referens, e quibus javanenses tapetia texunt (Linn.; Algae), a grass like spartea [Spanish broom (Spartium junceum)], by which the Javanese weave cloth [i.e. such as rugs, hangings, covers].

Galega (Tephrosia) piscatoria

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
