A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
organicus,-a,-um (adj.A): organic, relating to living organs (Jackson); consisting of or containing organs; of, relating to or derived from living organisms, as organic evolution or organic matter; being, composed of, or containing matter of plant or animal origin;” “forming an integral element of a whole, fundamental, inherent” (after WIII) [> L. organicus,-a,-um (adj.A), concerned with, or employing, a mechanical device or instrument; instrumental (Glare); > Gk. organikos, > organon, tool, instrument, organ]; see mineralis,-e (adj.B); see inorganicus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- ad humum organicum habitat, it dwells on organic soil.

- plantae gregariae in foliis acerosis Piceae ad humum ex materia organica putrida compositum habitantes, plants gregarious growing on needle leaves of Picea on humus composed of rotten organic material.

Humus,-i (s.f.II), abl. sg. humo: the earth, ground, the organic portion of soil.

Organa (pl.n.II) elementaria (adj.A), ‘elementary organs,’ also partes similares (adj.B), “small parts, common to the whole vegetable [i.e. plant], and appearing to be the organic elements of which the vegetable is composed” (S.Gray).
