A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
olim (adv.): (of past time) some time ago, once (upon a time), formerly, in time past; cf. postea (adv.): (of time) after that, thereafter, afterwards, later; cf. nunc (adv.): nunc (adv.), now, right now, just now; at present, at the present time;

- Hepatica angulosa in h. pharm. Par. culta (DeCandolle), cultivated at one time in the pharmacological [pharmaceuticus] garden [hortus] [i.e. physic garden] of Paris.

- in Dalmatian peninsula Sabioncello (olim Hyllis) (DeCandolle), at Sabioncello on the Dalmatian peninsula(formerly Hyllis).

- [Cistus] olim cultus in hort. Cels. sub nomine C. incani (DeCandolle), once cultivated in the Chelsea (botanical] garden under the name C. incanus.

- in monte olim ignivomo, on the mountain formerly vomiting fire.

- olim generice distinguebatur acheniis rostrato-cornutis (B&H), at one time it was generically distinguished by the rostrate-corned achenes.

- cum glochidibus olim pro ftylis habitis. (Swartz), with the hooked bristles formerly taken for the styles.

- Polygaleae nulli Ordini arcte junctae, inter Irregulares olim Rhinanthaceis et postea Legumninosis comparatae (B&H), the Polygaleae, closely united to no Order, counted among the Irregulares, at one time to the Rhinanthaceae and later to the Leguminosae.

- olim in hortis cultus (DeCandolle), at one time cultivated in gardens.

- Helianthemum angustifolium olim in hort. Reg. Paris (DeCandolle), the Helianthemum angustifolium, at one time in the Royal Botanical Garden of Paris [Hortus regii parisiensis].

- Connaraceis a Planchonio olim adjuncta (a quibus differt ovulis non orthotropis), et nuperrime (Linnaea, xxiii. 4 4 2 ) Surianae floribus comparata; an melius cum Rosaceis adsociata ? (B&H), once connected by Planchon to the Connaraceae (from which it differs by the ovules not orthotropous), and most recently (Linnaea, xxiii. 4 4 2 ) compared with the flowers of Suriana; perhaps it is better united with the Rosaceae?).

- Civitas autem olim clarissima et magna Romae aemula funditus deleta, ita ut vix agnoscas campos ubi fuerit (Desf.) the state, however, once the most reknowned and rival to Rome, obliterated to the very root [i.e. from the very bottom], so that you might scarcely recognize the fields where it had been.
