montanus,-a,-um (adj.A): montane, mountain-, pertaining to or growing on mountains; “pertaining to mountains, cool moist upland regions below timber line” (Magill 1990) [> L. mons, gen. sg. montis s.m.III]; cf. upland (adj.); cf. alpine, q.v. “the arctic zone of a mountain; above timberline” (Magill 1990);

- lacuna montana, mountain pool (tarn, q.v.).

- arbor (-oris, s.f.III) montana, abl. sg. arbore montana, mountain-dwelling tree.

- species ad 70, praesertim in hemisphaerii borealis regionibus temperatis frigidis v. montanis crescentes (B&H), species to 70, chiefly growing in temperate, frigid or montain regions of the northern hemisphere.

- species duae perennes, imprimis montanae (B&H), species two, perennial, primarily montane.

- species ad 12, omnes in Asia montana v. tropica crescentes (B&H), species to 12, all growing in montane Asia or tropical [Asia).

- in montanis subsylvaticis Europae (DeCandolle), in mountain [sc. locis, ‘places’] nearly above the forest zone of Europe.

- in Peruviae nemoribus montanis (DeCandolle), in the mountain glades of Peru.

- in umbrosis et dumetis montanis Angliae (DeCandolle), in shaded and brushy montane[sc. places] of England.

- in montanis apricis calcareis Europae anstralis (DeCandolle), in the montane, open, calcareous [sc. places] of southern Europe.

pedemontanus,-a,-um (adj.A): q.v., of or relating to a piedmont.
