A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Leather: aluta,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. aluta (tanned hide); corium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. corio (hide); cf. cutis,-is (s.f.III), abl.sg. cute: the skin; see ‘hide’ (Eng. noun.

Bursa,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. bursa: LL bag, purse, money-bag, saddle-bag; the antheridium of Chara (Jackson) [cf. Gk. bursa (s.f.I) “the skin stripped off, a hide; a drum” (Liddell & Scott)].

Bursum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. burso: hide, skin [> Gk. byrsa, the skin stripped off, a hide]; see corium,-ii (s.n.II).

Of or pertaining to leather; pertaining to tanners, leather-workers: coriarius,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.

Coriarius,-ii (s.m.II), q.v. a tanner, currier, leather-maker.
leather-colored, buff (the color of buffalo-skin leather), a moderate orange yellow, a light to moderate yellow (Webster's III): alutaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): leather-colored, pale brown, ‘the color of buff leather’ (Ainsworth & Bisby), ‘the color of a hide that has been tanned;’ bubalinus,-a,-um (adj.A); probably the same as ‘tan (color)’, q.v.
