A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Lapillus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. lapillo: a small stone, a pebble, a small, rounded stone, especially one worn smooth by the action of water or wind; see pebble; see stone;

- lapilli iaspidei, pebbles of the jasper-kind. - [Conferva marina pennata; alga] lapillis adnascitur in marinis littoribus, quoquoversus expansa, limo arenaque, interstitia ejus replentibus, plerumque gravida (Dill.), it grows on small stones on sea shores, expanded in all directions, on mud and sand, filling the interstices [i.e. spaces] of it, on mud and sand.

- in ambulacris Horti Oxoniensis glareæ & lapillis arcte adnascitur (Dill.), in the walkways of Oxford Garden it tightly grows upon gravel and pebbles.

- [OSCILLATORIA TORTA; algae] Caespes aut fluctuans, aut lapillis adnascens, biuncialis & ultra, atroviridis, substrato nullo limoso insidens (Agardh), the clump [i.e. bed] either undulating, or growing on pebbles, two inches and beyond, blackish-green, seated on no silty substrate.

- [lichen] in insula árctica Freti Behringiani (Wright), in locis collinis nudis, supra lapillos silaceos, etc., ex Tuck. l. c. (Nyl.), on the arctic island of the Behring Strait (Wright), in bare, hilly places upon yellowish-brown pebbles, etc., according to Tuckerman in the places cited.
