A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

generically: with reference to genus; in a way that relates to a class or group of similar things; not specifically (generice (adv.);

- Atragene ab auctoribus pluribus generice distincta (B&H), Atragene by many authors generically distinct.

- HYPSERPA, sepalis interioribus leviter imbricatis, a speciebus sepalis strictius valvatis nobis haud generice distinguenda videtur (B&H), with the inner sepals lightly imbricate, seems hardly to be distinguished generically from species with sepals more perfectly valvate.

- Hegemone, species unica, generice separatur ob sepala persistentia, nec aliter differt (B&H), Hegemone, a single species, generically separated due to the persistent sepals, does not otherwise differ.

- haec species a Spachio generice separatur sub nomine EROBATHOS (B&H), this species [Nigella damascenae] is generically separated by Spacius, under the name EROBATHOS.

- CERATOCEPHALUS, species amplectens 7 ab auctoribus descriptas sed forte in unum conjungendas, in Europa v. Asia media crescentes olim generice distinguebatur acheniis rostrato-cornutis (B&H), embracing 7 species described by authors but perhaps should be united into one, growing in Europe or middle Asia once generically distinguished by the rostrate-horned achenia.

- ab auctoribus pluribus generice distincta, melius ad sectionem Cheiropsim, cum qua optime habitu convenit, refertur (B&H), by many authors generically distinct, are better returned to the section Cheiropsis, with which it best agrees by the habit.

- CYRTORRHYNCHA: species unica montium Scopulosorum, habitu omnino Ranunculorum, non nostra sententia generice differt receptaculo parvo acheniisque striatis Thalictrorum (B&H), a single species of the Rocky Mountains, with the habit completely of Ranunculus [species], is not in our opinion generically different, by the small receptacle and the striate achenia of Thalictrum [species].

- [BARTRAMIA HALLERIANA; moss] in memoriam BARTRAMI, coloni curiosi in Pensylvania, qui inde optimo Dillenio olim varias species cryptogamas LINN. procuravit, genericum nomen condidi; triviale vero indicio primi evulgatoris ipsius hujus speciei (Hedwig), I have based the generic name in memory of Bartram, an inquisitive colonist in Pensylvania, who once procured from there for the most honorable Dillenius various cryptogamic species of Linnaeus; [I have based] the trivial [name, i.e. the epithet] for a genuine memento of the first publisher himself of this species. [NOTE: the Swiss Albrecht von Haller resisted the use of the binomial nomenclature of Linnaeus]

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
