A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

gamopetalus,-a,-um (adj.A); gamopetalous, “having the petals more or less united” (Fernald 1950), with petals united from base upwards; see ‘gamo-;’ see coalescens,-entis (part.B);

monopetalus,-a,-um (adj.A), monopetalicus,-a,-um (adj.A): monopetalous, “1. literally one-petalled; 2. gamopetalous, where the corolla is composed of several petals laterally united” (Jackson).

- petala 3 v. 5, hypogyna, in corollam gamopetalam postice fissam basi coalita (B&H), petals 3 or 5, hypogynous, fused at the base into a gamopetalous corolla that is postically divided.

- petala 5, distincta, aut in Romanzowia corollam gamopetalam constituentia (DeCandolle), petals 5, separated, or in Romanzowia forming a gamopetalous corolla.

- petala saepius inaequalia in corollam pseudo - gamopetalam approximata coalitave, nunc omnino coadunata, nunc lateribus tantum subadglutinata (DeCandolle), the petals rather often unequal, close together, or fused into a pseudo-gamopetalous corolla, sometimes joined together, sometimes only somewhat adhering together on the sides.

- petala 5, distincta, aut in Romanzowia corollam gamopetalam constituentia, hypogyna, sepalis alterna, (DeCandolle), the petals 5, separate, or in Romanzowia forming a gamopetalous corolla, hypogenous, alternate to the sepals, often marcescent.

- petala in generibus ordinibusve staminibus monadelpbis donatis tubo stamineo saepius plus minus adhaerent, et corollam gamopetalam simulant (B&H), the petals in genera or orders provided with monadelphous stamens are more often more or less adherent to the stamen-tube, and resemble a gamopetalous corolla.

- [Asclepiadaceae] corolla gamopetala, rotata campanulata urceolata v. rarius infundibularis v. hypocrateriformis (B&H), the corolla gamopetalous, rotate, campanulate, urceolate or more rarely funnel-shaped or hypocrateriform.

- Ordo facile definitus et, Menyanthieis forte exclusis, bene naturalis, inter Gamopetalas isostemones a Loganiaceis differt stipularum absentia et saepissime ovario 1-loculari v. spurie 2-loculari (B&H), an order easily defined, perhaps with the Menyanthieae exclused, quite natural, among the isostemonous Gamopetalae it differs from the Loganiaceae by the absence of stipules and most often by the ovary 1-locular or spuriously 2-locular.

Gamopetalae,-arum (f.pl.I) [sc. plantae] “plants having the petals united;” adj. gamopetalus,-a,-um (adj.A), gamopetalous (Jackson).

pericorollatus,-a,-um (adj.A): “used of a dicotyledonous plant with a gamopetalous perigynous corolla” (Jackson).

NOTE: rotatus,-a,-um (adj.A): rotate, wheel-shaped, used of the circular and flat limb of a gamopetalous corolla and a short tube, as in the genus Vaccinium

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
