Fodina,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. fodina: a pit, q.v., mine, q.v.; a working or works; see stone-quarry;

- auri-fodina,-ae (s.f.I), a gold mine (aurum,-i (s.n.II), gold).

- fodina lateritia, a brick-works or brick-working.

- juxta Urbis nostrae moenia, inter Divi Fridiani, & S. Petri in Gattolino portam, a fodina lateritia non longe, mense Februario (Mich.), beside the (fortified) walls of out City, between [the temple or basilica] of Saint Fridianus and Saint Peter on the Gattoline Gate, not far from the brick-works, in the month of February

- Hab. in cacumine Sierra de Gador fodinis plumbeis (Boissier), it grows in the summit of the Sierra de Gador, in the lead mines.

- in plagis petraîis ad fodinas Géraldine, Australiae occidentalis (F. Muell.) in the rocky plains at eh Geraldine mines, of western Australia.

- [moss] Var. g. in rupibus micaceis semidecompositis haud irroratis ad fodinam Schwarzwand et in muro ferrugineo fodinae secus viam, quae a pago Huttschlag per montem Throneck in Gastuniam ducit (C Mueller), var. g. on micaceous half disintegrated rock, not irrigated at the Schwarzwand mine and on the rusted wall of the mine along the road which leads from the village Huttschlag through Throneck mountain into Gastunia.

- [moss] Var. g. in rupibus micaceis semidecompositis haud irroratis ad fodinam Schwarzwand (C.Mueller), var. g. on half rotted micaceous rocks, not irrigated, at the Schwarzwand mine.

- fodinas plumbi ditissimas, incuria et ignorantia Maurorum prorsus neglectas prope Mascar vidi, nec cupreae etiam in ea regione et aliis desunt (Desf.), I have seen near Mascar extremely rich mines of lead, entirely neglected by the carelessness and ignorance of the Mauri, and not even of copper are absent in this region and others.
