A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

egregie (adv.): excellently, (pre)eminently, exceptionally, remarkably, admirably, outstandingly, uncommonly, well; see excellently; singularly [> L. ex grex 'out from the herd'> L. grex, q.v., gregis (s.m.III), a flock, herd]; opp. leviter (adv.), a little, not much, somewhat; opp. mediocriter (adv.) moderately, not especially, not remarkably;

Egregium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. egregio: a title of public officers in high station, similar to His Excellency (Lewis & Short).

- Ordo vastus, egregie naturalis, in Subordines tres characteribus satis definitis dividitur (B&H), a vast order, outstandingly natural, is divided into three Suborders with well defined characters.

- [Hysterium mytilinum; fungus] mytili cujusdam aliaeve conchae valvas ambas sibi incumbentes egregie refert (S&A), it remarkably resembles the two valves lying against each other of certain mussels or other conches [i.e. bivalve shell-fish].

- semina modo rhombeo-ovata, modo subrotunda, nunc leviter nunc egregie compressa (F. Mueller), the seeds sometimes rhombic-ovate, sometimes somewhat rounded, sometimes slightly, sometimes exceptionally compressed.

- et egregie quidem fertilis, fumum semineum in auras avolantem crebrum emittens (S&A), even though remarkably fertile, giving off a dense semineous smoke running quickly away into gentle airs [i.e. a dense cloud of spores].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
