A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Coronule, “the small calyx-like body which crowns the nucule of Chara” (Lindley); “1. a diminutive of corona, a floret; 2 = pappus; 3. the small calyx-like body which crowns the nucule of Chara, q.v.; 4. in Diatoms, a set of spines which terminate the frustules” (Jackson): coronula,-ae (s.f.I), acc. sg. coronulam, abl. sg. coronula, nom. pl. coronulae, gen. pl. coronularum, acc. pl. coronulas, dat. & abl. pl. coronulis;

- coronula persistens 0.7 mm. lata, 0.4 mm. alta, coronule persistent 0.7 mm. broad, 0.4 mm high (Stearn).

- [Brauneria] semina marginalia nulla; centralia, coronulà dentata terminata (Necker), marginal seeds none; central, terminated with a dentate pappus.

- [Myconia] semina coronula brevissima terminantur (Necker), seeds terminated with a very short coronule [i.e. floret].

- [Helenium] semina, omnia fertilia, papposa, pappis paleaceis, brevibus, coronulam simulantibus terminâta (Necker), seeds all fertile, pappose, terminated with the pappi paleaceous, short, resembling a coronule [i.e. floret].

- semina, feminarum, fertilia , coronulâ dentatà instructa, monoclinorum, sterilía s. nulla (Necker), the seeds, of the female [sc. flowers] fertile, provided with a dentate coronule [i.e. floret], of the monoclinous [i.e. hermaphrodite flowers] sterile or [s.=seu] none.

[algae] coenobium liberum, sistens laminam orbicularem (rarius ellipticam), coronulae, stellae vel rotulae similem, aut continuam, aut lacunis intercellularibus interruptam (pertusam, clathratam) (Braun), colony free, exhibiting an orbicular lamina (more rarely elliptic), similar to a little crown, star or little wheel, either continuous, or interrupted (perforated, clathrate [i.e. latticed] by intercellular lacunae.
