A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Corax,-acis (s.m.III), abl.sg. corace = Gk. korax: a raven; syn. corvus,-i (s.m.II), q.v.; see raven; see corvus,-i (s.m.II); see crow.

Gk. korax,-akos (s.m.III), “a raven, Corvus corax; also [classically] a cormorant, Phalacrocorax carbo; the constellation “Corvus;” anything hooked or pointed like a raven’s beak, such as an engine for grappling ships, siege-engines; a hooked door-handle” (Liddell & Scott).

NOTE: classically, Corax,-acis (s.m.III): a mountain in Aetolia (Lewis & Short).
