A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
copiosus,-a,-um (adj.A), compar. copiosior,-ius (adj.B); superl. copiosissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): well-supplied, copious, abounding, abundant, rich, ample, plentiful, numerous; opp. exiguus,-a,-um (adj.A), scanty in measure or number, poor, mean, meager; see abundant;

- caulocystidiis copiosis, with caulocystidia abundant (copious).

- albumen copiosum v. parcum (B&H), albumen plentifuls or scanty; see albumen,-inis (s.n.III).

- [Besleria lutea] liquor copiosus límpidus in fundo calycis continetur (Swartz), an abundant, clear liquid is contained at the bottom of the calyx.

- flores copiosi, axillares, solitarii, lutei, parvi. (Swartz), the flowers are abundant, axillary, solitary, yellow, small.

- pleraeque siccorum apricorum regionibus temperatis hemisphaerii borealis indigenae; in regione Mediterranea copiosae, in America boreali nonnihil rariores, in Asia media et orientali rarissimae. Species perpaucae etiam in America australi obviae (B&H), very many [sc. species] of dry, open [sc. areas] are indigenous [i.e. native] to the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere; abundant in the Mediterranean region, somewhat rarer in north America, mostrare in central and eastern Asia. A very few species are also encountered in South America.

- arbores masculae huic similes; sed racemi floribus copiosioribus, confertis, vix majoribus (Swartz), male trees similar to this; but the flowers of the racemes more abundant, congested, scarcely larger.

- ramuli copiosissimi, 4-quetri, srricti, subnudi (Swartz), the branchlets very numerous, 4-angled, straight, nearly naked.

- [moss] in sylvis ad rivulorum exsiccatorum lapides, prope Columbus Ohionis copiosissimus (C. Muell.), most abundant in forests on the stones of dried creeks near Columbus Ohio.

- [Tetraplodon; moss] In Groenlandia et Labradore copiosissimus ct pulcherrimus (C. Muell.), very abundant in Greenland and Labrador and very beautiful.

- [moss] antheridiis copiosissimis brevissime stipitatis paraphysibus clavatis (C. Muell.), with very numerous antheridia very shortly stalked, with clavate paraphyses.
