A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
bibulus,-a,-um (adj.A): bibulous; readily absorbing moisture, absorbent; (pharm.) soaking, drinking or taking up moisture.

- charta,-ae (s.f.I) bibula, blotting paper.

- saxum,-i (s.n.II), bibulum, abl. sg. saxo bibulo, pumice-stone, sand-stone.

- [fungus] substantia carnoso - fibrosa, spongiae ad instar bibula (S&A), the substance fleshy-fibrous, absorbent in the manner of a sponge.

[fungus] substantia tenacissima, suberoso-spongiosa, tempore sereno sicca, sed pluviarum, imo meri atmosphaerae humoris, avide bibula (S&A), the substance very tough, corky – spongy, dry in clear weather, but [in the time] of the rains, more precisely the unmixed water content of the atmosphere, avidly absorbent
