A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
aliter (adv.): otherwise, in another manner, in other respects;

- aliter velut in specie, otherwise just as in the species (Stearn).

- aliter quam, otherwise than.

- species duae autoicae, aliter genus synoicum, two species autoicous, otherwise the genus is synoicous.

- limbus 4 - 5 partitus, lobis contortis dextrorsum rarius sinistrórsum obtegentibus rarissime aliter imbricatis v. in Menyantheis induplicato- valvatis (B&H), the limb 4-5-parted, with the covering lobes contorted toward the right more rarely to the left very rarely otherwise imbricate or in Menyantheae induplicate-valved.

- Hegemone, species unica, generice separatur ob sépala persistentia, nec aliter differt (B&H), Hegemone, a single species, generically separated due to the persistent sepals, does not otherwise differ.

- folia perichaetialia brevia, aliter omnia aequilonga, the perichaetial leaves are short, otherwise all [the leaves] of equal length.

- pileus juventute rubellus, aliter aetate fuscescens, the pileus when young is reddish, otherwise with age it grows brownish-black.

aliter ... quam: other than, otherwise than, in another manner than;

- sed species aliter quam in Prodromo distribuendae, but the species should be distributed otherwise [in another manner] than in the Prodromus.
