A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
aeg-, aego-, aegi-: in Gk. comp. a goat [> Gk. aix, gen.sg. aigos (s.m.f.III): a goat; Lat. caper, capra]; cf. Aegilops,-opis (s.f.III); see goat.

Aegiphila, Linn. A favourite of goats, hence the name, aix, a goat, and philos, dear. Verbenaceae (Paxton).

Aegopodium L., Goutweed; “Name from the Greek aix, goat, and podion, a little foot, probably from the shape of the leaflets” (Fernald 1950).
aeg.: abbr. see aegyptius,-a,-um (adj.A), aegyptiacus,-a,-um (adj.A); also Aegyptus,-i (s.f.II), abl. sg. Aegypto: Egypt.
