A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

admodum (adv.): (of degree) fully, quite, completely, in a high degree, very much; (with adjs, advs etc.) very, rather, quite; (after a negative; also with respect to amounts, stages) completely, altogether; cf. bene (adv.), comp. melius (adv.), superl. optime (adv.): well, quite, rightly, excellently;

- non admodum, not quite, not in a high degree;

-[taste] salsus sapor linguam non admodum calfacit, sed acriter siccando corradit. Hic imprimis elucet in sale communi (Ray), ‘salty’ taste does not quite heat the tongue, but strongly irritates [it] by dessicating. This especially shows itself in common salt.

- receptacula admodum nuda, receptacles completely naked.

- exempla majora P. eduli haud adeo absimilia desuper apparent: a qua tamen admodum diversa est haec species (S&A), the larger specimens appear not so much unlike P. edulis: from which, however, this species is completely different.

- capsulis admodum exsertis, with capsules fully exserted.

- frondes latitudine admodum increscentes, the fronds growing much in width.

- infra stratum corticale admodum evolutum, within the fully developed cortical layer.

- (fungus) admodum variat magnitudine sphaerularum, ceterum constanter astomarum: quae humectatae formam globosam, statu decrepito excepto, recuperant (S&A), it varies completely in the size of the sphaerules, in other respects, it is constantly astomous [i.e lacking stomata]; which when moistened recover a globose shape, except in a very old state.

- caules amplitudine formaque admodum variabiles, stems in size and shape size very variable.

- genera admodum bene limitata, the genera completely well delimited.

- totus fungus admodum mollis levi etiam digiti pressione valde laesus paene destruitur; ceterum siccus, intactus diu persistens, the whole fungus is quite soft, smooth and with the pressure of a finger strongly damaged, is almost destroyed; otherwise when dry, intact, persisting a long time.

- nos saltem fungum bis modo inventum in herbis admodum heterogeneis, Cerastio vulgato et Potentilla norvegica, offendimus (S&A), we at any rate came upon the fungus, found only twice, on completely heterogeneous herbs, [on] Cerastium vulgatum and Potentilla norvegica.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
