A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
acclivis,-e (adj.B): uphill, sloping upwards, with an upward sloping surface; ascending; steep; tending to move upwards, rising; opp. declivis,-e (adj.B), q.v., sloping downwards, with a downward sloping surface, descending; cf. subvexus,-a,-um (adj.A): sloping upwards; see clivus,- (s.m.II), hill, slope; see sloping;

NOTE: not ‘aclivis,-e’ with one ‘c.’

- ea viae pars valde acclivis est (Cicero), this section of the road is very steep [i.e. strongly ascending].

- loco acclivi saxoso, at a steep rocky place (Stearn in Ray).

- valde acclivis, strongly ascending, steep.

- aequaliter acclivis,-e (adj.B), evenly [i.e. smoothly] sloping upwards.

- pars leniter acclivis est, a part that is gently ascending.

- [fungus] Cauligena epiphyllaque species frequens lecta in Galio sylvatico locis acclivibus umbrosis herbosis (inter Rengersdorf et Cunnersdorf) (S&A), a cauligenous [i.e. growing on stems] and epiphyllous [i.e. growing on (the upper surfaces of) leaves] species frequently collected on Galium sylvaticum in shady, grassy upward slopes (between Rengersdorf and Cunnersdorf).

- (fungus) in trunco caeso abiegno unico acclivi (S&A), a single time on a felled fir trunk sloping upwards.

- [fungus] locis acclivibus (ad orbitas, vias cavas)(S&A), on steep surfaces (on wheel ruts, sunken roads [roads with potholes].

- gignitur inter difficultates & acclives ascensus saxorum & cautium Melitae insulae sub Capucinorum coenobio (Ray), it is produced among the difficulties and steep ascents of the rocks and cliffs of the Island of Melita below the Capucine monastery [now the Benedictine monastery [i.e. cloister] at St. Mary’s Island (Melita)).
