A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Scalpellum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. scalpello, also scalpellus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. scalpello: a scalpel, lancet, a small, extremely sharp knife used in surgical procedures, anatomical procedures such as dissections [> L. scalpo,-psi,-ptum 3. To cut, carve, scrape, scratch, engrave, of shallower carving than sculpture; to scratch]; syn. lancet; see knife;

- scalpelli acie, with the edge of a scalpel.

- scalpello acuto, with a sharp scalpel.

- exilitate aciei scalpelli, with the thinness of the edge of the scalpel.

- Fissidens adianthoides fronde erecta simplici ramosaque, foliis distichis imbricatis scalpelliformibus (Hedw.), Fissidens adianthoides with the frond erect, simple [i.e. undivided], branched, with the leaves distichous, imbricate, scalpelliform.

- [fungus] structura fungillae interna ulterior indagatione omnino digna: at ostiolorum particularium exilitas scalpelli aeque ac oculorum respuit tentamina (S&A); the internal structure of the fungillus is entirely worth further study: but the assay of the particular ostioles rejects both the thinness of the scalpel just as of the eyes.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
