Molendinum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. molendino: a milling-place, mill-house [> L., cf. molens,-entis (part.B): grinding > L. molo, molui, molitum, 3. “to grind in a mill; to grind; to grind into a fine flour (hordeum in subtilem farinam)” (Lewis & Short)];

NOTE: a mill is a building with equipment for grinding or crushing a substance, such as grain (into flour, meal), wood (into (saw)dust, wood-powder), into small pieces or particles, for creating, e.g. flour;

Molendinum,-i (s.n.II) papyraceum (adj.A), abl.sg. molendino papyraceo: a paper-mill;

Molendina pyrii pulveris confectioni inservientia, a mill devoted to the preparation of gun powder.

Lorenzino alle Grotte.’

- [Conferva fluviatilis] Nascitur in aquis purioribus & limpidis, mihique observata fuit Augusto mense in flvio, qui ericetum Hounsleianum percurrit, iis præcipue locis, quibus aquæ cursus rapidior esse solet, v. gr. prope molendina pyrii pulveris confectioni inservientia (Dill.), it grows in water that is more pure and limpid, and observed by me in the August month in the river, which flows through the [Hounslow] heath-land, mainly in those places, in which the flow of the water is accustomed to be more rapid, for example, near the mill devoted to the preparation of gun-powder.

NOTE: Acquapendente is a city and ‘comune’ in Viterbo province, Lazio (Italy); Lacus Volsiniensis = modern Lago di Bolsena. Bolsena is also in the Lazio region.

Equitis ‘del Turco,’ juxta amnem ‘Emа,’ inter Pontem Divi Felicis, & Роntem Jozoli (Mich.), on the mountain called Fesulanus of the lord knight [domini equitis] ‘del Turco’ [i.e. of the del Turco family] beside the [rapidly flowing] river ‘Ema,’ between the Bridge of Saint Felix and the Bridge Jozoli.

- In saxis ad Моntis Воni radicem juxta molendinum Diaboli, secus Solia rivulum, atque etiam Paternum inter molendinum in praerupto loco dicto ‘le Coste’, & Lutetia Parisiorum habuimus (Mich.), we have taken it on stones at the foot [i.e. base] of mount Bono beside the Diabolo mill, along the Solia river, and also in the midst of the Paternus mill in the broken land called ‘le Coste,’ and Lutetia of the Parisians [i.e. Paris, France].

- In agris, arundinetis, & aggerosis locis, Augusto mente, circa molendinum, vulgo ‘le mulina di Quinto’ (Mich.), in fields, reed-thickets and rubbishy-hilly places, in the August month, around the mill commonly called ‘le mulina di Quinto.’
