1. D. = Doctor,-oris (s.m.III), q.v., Doctor: J.S.D., or S.J.D.: Doctor of Juridical Science, Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), J.D. (Juris Doctor), LL.D. (Legum Doctor);

- In Cerris, & Quercubus circa Paterni horreum, ac alibi in agro Florentino, & Londino a D. Sherardo acceptmus (Mich.), on Quercus cerris and Oaks around the warehouse of Paternum, and elsewhere in the Florentine region, and from London we have received one from D. [i.e. Doctor] Sherard.

NOTE: ‘D.’ Sherard refers to Sherard’s LL.D., which he received at Oxford: William Sherard LL.D., ‘Doctor’ Sherard.

2. D. = dominus,-i (s.m.II), q.v., ‘Lord;’

- prope Rus D. Еquitis del Turco (Mich.), near the cultivated land of the Lord Knight [of the family] del Turco [i.e. of the del Turco family].

- Меnse Octobri, in Scandicci alti nemoribus, praecipue in illo D. Marchionis de Niccolinis (Mich.) in the October month in the groves of Scandicci alti, particularly in that of the Lord Marquis de Niccolinis.

- Ausp. D. Stanislai Nardij Abbatis Apostolici [Vaticani?] Sac. Th. Magistri (Michelli), by the auspice [i.e. patronage] of D. [= dominus] Lord Stanislaus Nardius Apostolic Abbot Vatican [?, uncertain ligature], Sacrae Theologiae Magister [i.e. Magister [i.e. Master] of Sacred Theology].

3. D. (abbr.): divus,-i (s.m.II), q.v., or diva,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., a sanctified man or woman, a saint;

- Сaesar Ricasolus Flor. D. Stephani Eques (Mich.), Caesar Ricasolus Florentinus Knight of Saint [D. = Divi, gen.sg.] Stephan.

- Joannes Baptista Riccius Flor. D. Stephani Eques (Mich.) = Giovanni Battista Riccio Florentine [Florentinus] Knight of Saint [D. = Divi, gen.sg.] Stephan.

- in fornice fontis cujusdam diruti Eremuli Sanctissimae Virgini Маriae, & D. [= Divae] Саtharinae V.ac М. dicati in summitate Моntis Мurelli (Mich.), on the arch [i.e. vault] of the well of some [i.e. unnamed] ruined little hermitage dedicated to the most Holy Virgin Mary and Saint Catharine V. and M. on the summit of Mount Murell.
