- Crambe repetita, “warmed over, for something repeated, an old story” (Lewis & Short).

Crambidion,-ii (s.n.II): a little cabbage, dim. of krambe; crambion,-i (s.n.II): (medic.) a decoction of cabbage.

Crambis,-idos (s.f.III), abl.sg. crambide: cabbage-caterpillar (Liddell & Scott).

Crambe, Tournefort. “The Greek name for Sea-kale, or Sea-cabbage. Brassicaceae” (Paxton).

Tournefort: the author's species are maritime plants:

“Crambes species sunt” the species [kinds] of Crambe are (note ‘crambes’ is gen.sg.): Crambe maritima Brassicae folio(with synonyms in Brassica), with the leaf of Brassica; Crambe maritima, foliis Erucae latioribus, with leaves wider than Eruca. and Crambe maritima, foliis Erucae angustioribus, with leaves narrower than Eruca (the last two with synonyms in Eruca).

Cynocrambe,-es (s.f.I), abl.sg. Cynocrambe, Dog(‘s)-cabbage (Cynocrambaceae) > Gk. kynokrambE,-Es (s.f.I) = 1. kunea [cynea] perhaps kuneE, from kuWn, dog, a helmet of leather (dog skin) for soldiers [?]; 2. apokunon [apocynon] > Gk. apo-, ‘away’ + kuOn (cyon) ‘dog;’ dog’s-bane, Marsdenia erecta; the name of a poisoned cake for dogs (Liddell & Scott).

NOTE: [Marsdenia erecta = syn. of Cionura erecta, poisonous to goats and sheep and other animals] genus Cionura with one species (Apocynaceae).

NOTE: Cionura may be coined from ‘cyonura,’ a dog’s tail.

NOTE: Cynobrambe: from Greek kynokrambē, Dog's mercury (Mercurialis perennis; Dog’s Mercury (Euphorbiaceae), a poisonous colonizer of old woodlands), from Greek kyn- cyn- + krambē cabbage. Mercury: a plant of the genus Mercurialis (herba mercurialis) e.g. Dog’s Mercury (Mercurialis perennis) [after Merriam-Webster; WIII]; the element mercury, toxic in medical preparations.

Asteriscium crambe (noun in apposition) Apiaceae.

Mercurialis cyanocrambe (Euphorbiaceae) perhaps mistake for cynocrambe = syn. of Mercurialis perennis (Dog’s Mercury).

Sclerophylax cynocrambe; Sterrhymenia cynocrambe; Tetragonia cynocrambe (Aizoaceae).

Theligonium cynocrambe L. (Rubiaceae)

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
