A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Ascensus,-us (s.m.IV), abl.sg. ascensu: an ascent or ascending, going from a lower place to a higher; a scaling (of a wall, cliff or other vertical object); an approach [> L. ascendo (ads-), -cendi,-scensum, 3. (scando) to ascend, mount up, climb; to go up, to rise, to spring up, grow up]; opp. descensus,-us (s.m.IV), q.v., abl.sg. descensu: a descent; a descending way;

- [Tortula cruegeri] Tarapoto, in ascensu montis Guayrapurina (2500 ped.) (Mitten), at Tarapoto, on the ascent of Mount Guayrapurina (2500 feet).

- gignitur inter difficultates & acclives ascensus saxorum & cautium Melitae insulae sub Capucinorum coenobio (Ray), it is produced among the difficulties and steep ascents of the rocks and cliffs of the Island of Melita below the Capucine monastery [now the Benedictine monastery [i.e. cloister] at St. Mary’s Island (Melita)).
