A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Archicoenobium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. archicoenobio: archabbey; the chief or principal monastery; a high-ranking monastery or abbey; see monastery.

Coenobium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. coenobio: colony, lit. (eccl.) 'cloister, convent;' monastery (Steten), abbey.

- Typis Archicoenobii Montis Casini, from the Printing House of the Archabbey of Monte Cassino; see typi,-orum (pl.m.II).

- Сirca Archicoenobium Vallis-Umbrosae ad aquarum rivulos, necnon in umbrosis sylvis Florentia non distantibus ad arborum radices (Mich.), around the archabbey of Vallis-Umbrosa on streamlets of water, also not distant on the roots of the trees in the shady Florentine forests.

- [Tozzia Alpina] Наnc ipse plantam in Etruria solus reperit, in Alpibus scilicet Archicoenobio Sancta Maria Vallis-Umbrosae supereminentibus, signanter in colle, qui dicitur Hellerema, circa solstitium aestivum floribus ornatam decoratamque collegit (Mich.), he himself found this plant only in Etruria, in the Alps [i.e. high mountains] that is, rising above the Archabbey of Saint Mary of Vallis-Umbrosa; expressly on the hill, which is called ‘Hellerema,’ he collected it around the summer solstice adorned and graced with flowers.

- [Juncoides nemorosum] In montosis nemoribus per Etruriam crescit, videlicet circa Archicoenobium Vallis-Umbrosae, & Еremum Моntis Senarii (Mich.), it grows in montain groves throughout Etruria, particularly around the Archabbey of Vallis-Umbrosa, and the wilderness of Mount [Senarius].

- In montosis nemoribus, veluti circa Florentiam, cum in Monte Senario, tum prope Archicoenobium Vallis-Umbrosa (Mich.), in the mountain glades, such as around Florence, when in Monte Senario, then near the Archabbey of Vallis-Umbrosa.

- [Carex nemorosa] rara et admodum apud nos hujusmodi planta, nam in udis circa Archicoenobium Vallis Umbrosae, & in rivulis per Lacus Nigri Аlpes dumtaxat invenimus; veruntamen ex amicorum nostrorum munificentia e variis regionibus habuimus (Mich.), in a high degree among us so rare a plant, for example in wet places around the Archabbey of Vallis Umbrosa, and we have encountered it only in rivulets throughout the Alps of the Black Lake; nevertheless from the munificence [i.e. generosity] of our friends, we possess it from various regions.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
