A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Aedicula,-ae (s.f.I), a small building; in pl. a little house, small room or small shrine, such as a chapel, tabernacle; a niche or recess in a wall; also a tomb [> L. aedicula,-ae (s.f.I): a small building intended for a dwelling; (of gods) a chapel, a small temple; a niche or shrine for the image of a god; (hence on tombstones) the recess in which the urn was placed; a small house or habitation (mostly in plural); (in singular) a small room, a closet” (Lewis & Short)[ > dim. aedes,-is (s.f.III), q.v.].

NOTE: aedicula,-ae (s.f.I), also aediculum,-i (s.n.II) Medieval British Latin: “small house; a tomb; a chapel; a small relgious house (Howlett).
