A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
-fluus,-a,-um (adj.A), also –fluens,-entis (part.B), -seeping, -weeping, -leaking; -flowing [> fluo,-xi,-xum 3, inf. fluere: “of any liquid) to move or issue in a stream, run, pour, flow, exude, etc.; esp. (of blood, tears, and other bodily fluids” (Glare); cf. -ulentus,-a,-um (adj.A): in L. comp., also -olentus,-a,-um, 'probably akin to L. olere, to smell: that abounds in (a specified thing): that has (a specified thing) in marked amount or degree' (WIII); full of, abounding in; cf. -fluus,-a,-um (adj.A); perhaps rendered with the English adjective -y, as in watery, dungy, musty, fishy, sleepy, sappy, winey; cf. -osus,-a,-um (adj.A);

balsamifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing with balsam; seeping, weeping.

- [Boswellia] arbores, cortice saepe papyraceo, balsamiflua (B&H), trees, with the bark often papery, flowing with balsam.

galbanifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): galbanum-dripping, galbanum-yielding.

lactifluus,-us,-uum (adj.A): flowing with milk or milky sap, latex, or juice (lac, gen. sg. lactis, milk].

mellifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): mellifluous, flowing with honey, honey-dropping.

mellifluens,-tis (adj.B): mel+ fluo honey-dropping; dripping;

resinifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing with resin;

- [Gardenia edulis] arbórea, resiniflua (F.Mueller), tree-like, resin-producing.

- Eupatorium resinifluum Urb.;

nectarifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing with nectar;

- marsupium nectarifluum: a nectarial pouch. rorifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): dripping with dew [ros, gen. sg. roris (s.m.III) + fluo].

sanguifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing or dripping with blood (a red fluid).

Lactarius sanguifluus Fr. a mushroom with a blood-red latex.

styracifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing with gum or resin.

vermifluus,-a,-um (adj.A) 'swarming with worms.'

vernicifluus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.: flowing with varnish.

Aster vernicifluus F.Muell.

viscifluus,-a,-um (adj.A): flowing with a sticky substance, such as birdlime;

Aster viscifluus F.Muell. = Celmisia viscosa, Sticky Mountain Daisy.
