The Missouri Botanical Garden invites you to experience gardens galore in May 2009 during a 10-day trip to England. This luxurious Gardens of England Tour will include stops at England’s grandest gardens, a stroll through places that shaped Henry Shaw’s vision for the Missouri Botanical Garden, and several sights that capture the splendid architecture and rich history of England.
John Elsley and his wife, Billie, will accompany you on this trip. John, an Englishman trained at Kew, directed our efforts in outdoor horticulture during the 1970s, designed the English Woodland Garden, worked with Koichi Kawana in building the Japanese Garden, and led several outstanding trips to the gardens of Great Britain and continental Europe.
Subsequently, John has pursued an active career in the horticultural industry. He served as general editor for the Wayside Gardens Collection, a series of eight books on home gardening and was also the North American consultant on books written by author Graham Stuart. John’s personal garden has been featured on HGTV and NBC. He is a particular expert on perennial plants and has visited the gardens featured on our tour many times.
