ARECACEAE. We have just become aware (after seven years!) of two very damaging errors in the key to genera of Arecaceae. At the end of the second lead of couplet 18, the instruction “Proceda a la copla 35” should instead direct the user to couplet 39. Many thanks to Rafael Acuña Castillo, of the Universidad de Costa Rica, for bringing this to our attention. This type of error occurs when couplets are added or removed and sections of the key rearranged during the revisionary process, and we neglect to adjust these “Proceda” directives accordingly. When one such error is found in a key, others are likely, so we checked the only other candidate in this particular key and, sure enough, it was also bungled: in the first lead of couplet 21, “Proceda a la copla 38” should be corrected to “Proceda a la copla 34.”
