The Cutting Edge

Volume XXVIII, Number 2, April 2021

News and Notes | Leaps and Bounds | Germane Literature | Season's Pick | Annotate your copy

Once again we owe Esteban Jiménez thanks and a tip o' the hat for this Season's Pick, Pavonia dasypetala Turcz. (Malvaceae) —not because he took the photos, but because he gave us a rooted cutting (vouchered by J. E. Jiménez 4558 , USJ; Guanacaste, Santa Cecilia de La Cruz) sometime last year, which flowered in Hammel's greenhouse right on cue for this issue.

Pavonia dasypetala Turcz. (Malvaceae)

We have always considered that this would be a nice one to have in cultivation as an ornamental, so now that the rains have begun, pronto it'll be going from the pot to yard, to see how it does. See more images at Hammel's Flicker site.
