Plants of northwestern Yunnan: Northern exit of the Hu Tiao Xia

Location: Hu Tiao Xia
The gorge is to the right of the mountain in the middle of the picture; the river is just out of sight in the trench to the left, flowing out of the gorge. The high mountain almost hidden behind is the Yu Long Xue Shan (Green Dragon Snow Mountain), 18,355 ft (5596 m). The area in the foreground is rather dry, open forest of Pinus yunnanensis (Pinaceae), probably in the rain shadow of the Ha Ba Xue Shan, which is off to the right, out of the picture.
