VEGETACIÓN/VEGETATION. Our introductory volume is still warm from the presses, and already the errors are surfacing. We have just become aware that the names Myrsine dependens (e.g., p. 116) and M. pittieri (e.g., p. 114) are both employed in this chapter, as though different spp. were involved, when in fact they refer to a single sp.: M. pittieri (Mez) Pittier (invalidly published, in any case) is now generally considered a synonym of M. dependens (Ruiz & Pav.) Spreng. (and is so treated in Francisco Morales’s Manual draft for Myrsinaceae). Helpful tip: as the most effective method for spotting errors, set aside your page-proofs for at least three months, then rummage through them absent-mindedly.
