POLYGALACEAEJ. F. Morales (INB).  Polygala harbors the lion’s share (12) of the 23 spp. of this family attributed Costa Rica, followed by Monnina (6 spp.), Securidaca (4 spp.), and Moutabea (1 sp.).  Four spp. (two each in Monnina and Securidaca) are endemic, one of these (in Securidaca) being designated with a provisional name.  One sp. (Polygala floribunda Benth.) is included solely on the basis of material from cultivation.  Two spp. (of Polygala) are reported for the first time from the country (see under “Leaps and Bounds”).
