MARANTACEAE. We’ve just blundered upon the following error (presumably editorial) in the description of Calathea trichoneura H. Kenn., where the external surface of the bracts is characterized as “glabra, rara vez puberulenta apicalmente.” In fact, it is “adpreso-tomentosa en la base,” as correctly indicated in the sp. key (couplet 32). The “diagnostic statement” for C. trichoneura is also wrong on this account (“bracteas...glabras”). A minor detail, perhaps, but important to anyone trying to identify spp. in this complex genus.
MONIMIACEAE. It’s always disheartening to learn of an error before a work has been published, but after it’s too late to effect a correction. Shortly after a sneak-preview of the Manual Monimiaceae treatment for Vol. 6 (see Hammel et al. entry in “Germane Literature”), family specialist David H. Lorence (PTBG) pointed out an error in the key to Mollinedia spp.: in the first lead to couplet 1, the passage “Láminas foliares 8–42 × 21–28.5 cm” should instead read “Láminas foliares 28–42 × 21–28.5 cm,” as indicated in the description of the sp. involved. The key is correct in the original manuscript submitted by contributor Jorge Gómez-Laurito (USJ); thus the error was ours, editorial in nature, and we must apologize to the author.
