ORCHIDACEAE. Suspicious of the supposed occurrence of Platystele jungermannioides (Schltr.) Garay in Costa Rica, orchidologist Adam Karremans (JBL) requested that we provide a scanned image of the sole Costa Rican voucher for the sp., Liesner 1751 (MO). Sure enough, Adam was able to instantly and conclusively redetermine said specimen as Platystele tica Karremans & Bogarín, described recently [see under "Fernández," this column, in The Cutting Edge 21(3), Jul. 2014] from ca. 300–450 m elevation in the Valle de General. The Liesner specimen extends the geographic range of P. tica southward (to the Península de Osa), and may also lower the elevational range (to "20–300 m"). We gather that Platystele jungermannioides in the sense of its type is now restricted to southern Mexico (Chiapas) and Guatemala (though we are uncertain as to some ostensible Panamanian records). Its deletion from the Costa Rican flora reduces our Platystele sp. total from (according to our calculations) 20 to 19 (though only 12 were accounted for in the 2003 Manual Orchidaceae treatment).
