The Cutting Edge

Volume XXVI, Number 2, April, 2019

News and Notes | Leaps and Bounds | Germane Literature | Season's Pick | Annotate your copy

Photos of Bourreria grandicalyx J. S. Mill. & Sirot (Boraginaceae—or Ehretiaceae, if you really must), submitted in January by Manual co-PI Nelson Zamora, merit this award, even though the collection date of December (voucher Zamora 10467, CR) is now a bit out of season.  But in fact, as per the Manual draft Boraginaceae treatment by James S. Miller (MO), the flowering phenology of this sp. is largely contemporaneous with the current issue of TCE.

Bourreria grandicalyx J. S. Mill. & Sirot

Said to have the largest flowers in its genus, B. grandicalyx—as these photos demonstrate—ought to be added to the list of native spp. with ornamental potential!
